Westone Laboratories

Magento version upgrade and database migration

Westone Laboratories, based in Colorado Springs, is a national leader in hearing protection and audiology products. Westone’s website was built on Magento 1, which had reached end-of-life in 2020 and was no longer receiving official security updates. We were tasked with transferring their storefronts, along with over 4 million rows of data, to a new Magento 2 implementation. As Lead Designer and Developer at Runningfish, I was responsible for all aspects of this project, including database mapping, theme development, and project launch.

Magento 2 Website

I was the sole developer on this project, creating a new Magento 2 instance, researching and integrating the necessary extensions, and collaborating with the client’s IT department to enable data migration. After adapting the client’s existing theme to Magento 2, I built upon it to achieve the client’s desired aesthetic. I also rewrote and reimplemented custom store views for their commercial customers.

Supporting Apps

In addition to the storefronts, Westone used a suite of custom PHP apps that let customers track shipments, customize earpieces, and more. During the Magento migration, we also moved each app to a separate Cloudways instance to allow for better maintainability and scalability.
